How to write your family's story with AI

Turn your memories and family facts into short, readable stories with a free AI helper, in your own voice.

🌳 Start your free AI Family Tree

Copy our free prompt and let an AI helper build your family tree with you, one question at a time.

Build my family tree

You do not need to be a writer. Tell the AI your memories in your own words, as if talking to a friend, and ask it to tidy them into a short story.

Write one story at a time: one person, one place, or one event. Short stories are easier to finish and easier for family to read.

Read every draft carefully. Fix anything that is wrong and remove anything that does not sound like you. The AI must not add details you did not give it.

When you have a few stories, ask the AI to put them in order and make a simple table of contents. You can print them or share them with family.

What to do

  1. Build your family tree first, so you have names and dates in one place.
  2. Pick one person or memory, and jot down everything you remember.
  3. Paste the prompt below with your notes into a free AI helper.
  4. Edit the draft until it sounds like you, then save it.

Copy this story writing prompt

Help me write a short family story in my own voice.
The story is about: [person or event]
My notes and memories: [paste notes]

Please:
- Write about 300 words, warm and simple, in first person.
- Use ONLY the facts in my notes. Do not invent names, dates or events.
- Put [?] where something is unclear, so I can fill it in.
- Then ask me three questions that could make the story richer.

Next step: build your AI family tree.

Questions people ask

Will the story still be mine?

Yes. These are your memories. The AI only helps with wording, and you decide the final version.

How long should each story be?

Short is best. A page or less is easy to write and easy for family to read.

Can I make a book?

Yes. Collect your stories, ask the AI for a table of contents, and print them at home or a local print shop.
