Trying AI for the first time
A gentle first step: how to ask an AI assistant your first question.
Pick a free assistant from our rankings, such as ChatGPT or Google Gemini, and open its website on your computer, tablet, or phone.
Type a question just as you would ask a friend, for example: "Explain what a Roth IRA is in simple words." You can ask follow-up questions like "Can you make that shorter?"
Do not type private details such as your Social Security number, bank account numbers, or passwords.
There are no wrong questions. If the answer is confusing, simply say "I don't understand, please explain it more simply."
